Rabbi Tom Heyn

Born and raised in Baltimore, Rabbi Heyn received his musical training at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin and his graduate degree and rabbinic ordination from the Hebrew Union College - Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati.  Many know "Rabbi Tom" through his involvement with Cedar Village, where he served as a rabbi and chaplain in 2000-2006 and 2008-2009.  He has been awarded by the Jewish Federation of Cincinnati for outstanding community service as a Jewish professional and is co-founder of the Jewish Spirituality Network of Southwestern Ohio.

As a leading proponent of "Integral Judaism," Rabbi Heyn is sought after as a teacher, lecturer, and scholar-in-residence at synagogues, churches, and retreat centers.  As a musician, he frequently performs solo, with his band MAMASH,  and as one of Cincinnati's Three Jewish Tenors.

Rabbi Heyn is a member of the GCBOR (Greater Cincinnati Board of Rabbis) and the CCAR (Central Conference of American Rabbis).

Over the years, Rabbi Heyn has met and been influenced by teachers as diverse and renowned as the Dalai Lama and the Lubavitcher Rebbe.  He spent a decade studying and practicing meditation in a San Francisco spiritual community.  He then spent another decade studying and practicing the Kabbalah under the guidance of respected rabbis and scholars, including Professor Moshe Idel and Professor Arthur Green. His outlook has been profoundly shaped by Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel as well as by controversial thinkers such as Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi and Ken Wilber.  He lives with his three boys and (soon-to-be-wedded) wife in Cincinnati (most of the time.)
